Well i just installed copssh 1.3.6 on my x64 w2k3 server. And it works fine. But i notice that starting up and shutting down takes a while longer, then before the installation. I didnt mention this big difference on my 32 bit platform server. So my question will there be a 64 bit version any soon?

Hi guys, thanks a lot for the help you've already given me. I've been able to rsync my local drives to my remote linux box flawlessly, but my question now is: Can I make use of hardlinks to create incremental snapshots of my local drives on my remote machine?

Hi,
I am using the default install of cwRsync with OpenSSH. I want to backup each machine into it's own directory within the backup directory. So for example: /backup/computer1 /backup/computer2. So far I haven't been able to figure out how to add a sub-directory onto the path when using the rsync daemon.rsyncd.conf:
path = /cygdrive/c/backup
read only = false
transfer logging = yesrsync command on the client:
SET SECHAW_CMD="c:\program files\cwRsync\bin\rsync.exe" -auv "/cygdrive/c/documents and settings" Backup_Server::backup

Hi!
Yesterday, I installed copSSH v1.3.6 in Windows XP Pro. SP2 (all updates; local account -- no domain/ActiveDirectory). I played with it. I noticed sometimes exiting my SSH sessions would hang from bash prompt without any errors. Exiting cmd.exe back bash was fine.Has anyone else had this problem or know why this happens?
Thank you in advance. :)

I'm running rsyncd. I've rsynced a filetree from local server to remote.
If I run the same rsync command second time around, I am getting a long filelist from 'building file list ... done' of directories where I am expecting none to appear.This implies local is different to remote doesn't it ? How can I work out what is wants to sync again ?
If I do the same on a linux box, the second time I run the rsync command no files are listed under the 'building file list ... done' which is what I expect because nothing on local has changed second time round.
Thanks

Hi.
I just configured a WinXP-WinXP cwrsync setup. I´m using ssh.
Everything worked fine when I had a client to server comunication. After I cunfigured a second client to the same server, the first client starts a strange behavior: it only sync´s when I change the source file for the second time. Everything is ok with the second client. Please I really need a help. -

We have just loaded and begun testing 2.0.4 on a Windows XP (sp1) workstation. The client we are testing with is a Novell Netware 6.5 server running the rsync port.
We have only done preliminary testing, but it seems to sync fine to both the internal hard drive and a firewire attached external drive, however, we have an interesting issue when trying to sync to a NAS which is mounted as a drive letter on the XP box.If we start rsync as a Windows servers rsync to the NAS failes with the following error: "@ERROR: chdir failed". We have tried changing from ntsec to nontsec, but this did not seem to have any effect.
However, if we stop the service, open the bash prompt and start rsync from the command line using "rsync --daemon --verbose --config=rsyncd.conf" it works fine when syncing to the NAS which raises three questions:
1) Is there a reason it would work one way and not the other?
2) Is there a way to make it work as a windows service?
3) If not, what is the best way to automate starting the service from the bash prompt under windows?
Thanks!

Help! i'm trying to get cwRsync installed on XP and it goes through extracting all the files very quickly, then the installer hangs at "Creating service account SvcwRsync" i've tried a few times, and it always stops at this point. I've left it there for hours, but the only way to get out is to kill the installer in Task Manager.
what am i doing wrong?thanks! tom

I have a rather strange question:I'm running copssh on win2k3 server and I need to give a user sftp access to its home directory (/copssh/home/sftp_usr, using public key authentication) but cannot allow him to logon using a shell (eg. putty). I don't want the user to execute "ln -s /cygdrive" for instance.
Is there some way to achieve this?
What also may be helpful is to restrict the rights when using a shell. -

Where on earth do I define the password to the user account?When I create an account, there is nowhere where I can define the password. I need to know this, because when I try to connect (via Putty) to the remote computer it asks 1) the username AND after that 2) the password.
So what is the password? -

I do the stannard procedure --> Start --> Programms --> COPSSH --> Activate a user. Then I choose Domain user name and type the user name f.ex. "test". And after that I type the domain name f.ex. "testarea". After that I receive the following message:
mkpasswd (731): Could not find domain controller for this domain. Generate key is /home/test/.ssh/test
processed file: C:\Program Files\copssh\home\test\.ssh\test
No mapping between account names and security IDs was done.

Hi,
I've installed copSSH on a Windows 2000 Server, which also happens to be the directory controller (consequently, I can't add a user account as a "true" local user). I've tried activating the user as both a local (which copSSH sees) and domain account, but no matter what I do, it won't let me authenticate from my client machine.I've tried login in as "user", "domain\user", "domain \ user", "user@domain"...nothing works.

I won't doubt this is user error, but here's the problem:
When I execute the client CMD file to initiate a synch, all seems fine as the files are transferred over to the server. Looking at the server, all the files are pulled over correctly. When the transfer "ends", the server rsync.exe process continues to run at 100% CPU load as it did while the transfer was occurring. The client rsync.exe process remains running, but uses 0% of the CPU.Isn't the client supposed to exit? Why is the server process eating up all of the CPU time?
I've got cwRsync 2.0.4 installed on two Windows XP Pro SP2 machines. Server side rsyncd.conf file is default with this module added:
path = /cygdrive/c/test
read only = false
transfer logging = yes
Client side cwrsync.cmd file is default with this custom command added:
rsync -rv /cygdrive/c/test/ dali::test/upload
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi guys, I've been searching for a way to use rsync and hardlinks to securely perform incremental backups of my windows machine to an offsite linux backup box. Ideally I would like to schedule the rsync on the windows box to send the files to the linux box (avoid firewall/natting issues) Is this possible with cwRsync, and if so, which component do I need to install on the windows machine? Thanks in advance!

we have starting backup up some directories to a remote server using rsync and the -e ssh option. it is mostly working fine.
but there appears to be an issue when it tries to sync a directory with lots of folders or files. when the source folder has a lot of files, it will hang somewhere on a line like this:
recv_file_name(archive/CDW3NEW/_vti_cnf)what is it doing at this point that it hangs? is there a size-limit on the queue it can build? what is going wrong? it will hang there indefinitely, I have left it for several hours and nothing happens.

Greetings,
Wanting to run rsync Windows to Windows through SSH but having an authentication problem. setup as follows:***Installed cwRsync server on wintest1 (w2k3 server) including OpenSSH service and installed cwRsync client on wintest2 (also w2k3 server). Neither wintest1 or wintest2 are domain members.
rsync and OpenSSH services on server started fine.
***On the client, I generated a private/public key pair using "ssh-keygen -t rsa"
***On the server, in the profile directory for svcwrsync, I created a .ssh directory and in that created an authorized_keys2 file into which I inserted the id_rsa.pub from the client - so I should be able to ssh from the client to the server without the need to enter a password.
***On the client run "ssh svcwrsync@wintest1". I am prompted for a password. I enter the password generated by the installation process for the service account but get "Permission denied".
***The event log on the rsync server indicates "sshd : PID 3468 : Failed password for svcwrsync from 148.145.157.88 port 1082 ssh2."Any idea where I may be going wrong ?
Many thanks in advance

Hello,
Any environment variables listed are not taking effect: for example:SET USER=username
SET LOGNAME=username
SET USERNAME=username
SET RSYNC_PASSWORD=passwordnone of these will be recognized when I do:
rsync -avP --stats --delete "/cygdrive/c/test_dir/" server.net:/testdir
I know I can do username@server.net:/testdir, but I want to know why this is not working via setting the environment variable

Hi,
How do I specify multiple log files in the rsyncd.conf? For example: If I wanted to add a separate log file for and (see below), how can I do that? Right now all my logging goes to one file which is specified in the global portion of the rsyncd.conf file.path = /cygdrive/d/rsync/applications
read only = false
transfer logging = yespath = /cygdrive/d/rsync/properties
read only = false
transfer logging = yesThanks in advance.

Can I get a compiled version including the sftplogging patch ?The default Umask for sftp is strange, as it doesn't allow the owner to execute the files and also includes the None and Everyone groups.
Or is thre any other method to change the Umask for sftp ?

Hi,
I am using the latest version of cwrsync and I have a question regarding multiple source directories. If I wanted to sync multiple source directories to a Rsync server, how could I do that in the same script? Or do I need to create separate scripts for each source directory?Thanks in Advance.
