Hi all,
I have a copSSH server on winxp with following details:
domain acount 'gar\noob'
activate a user name 'noob'
'noob.key' and 'noob.key.pub' is at the 'C:\Program Files\copSSH\home\noob'
'authorized_keys' is at the 'C:\Program Files\copSSH\home\noob\.ssh'
I have a linux account with following details:
username 'noob'
Under 'home/noob/.ssh2',
public key file 'id_rsa_2048_a.pub'
We are implementing Spamhaus datafeed in our datacenter. Our datafeed setup includes two Windows 2003 Servers with dual NIC’s. I want to use one NIC for DNS (WRBLDNSD) and other NIC for Spamhaus rsync. I am confused on how to set this up and please find below my queries:
1. Installation manual says “Wrbldnsd cannot co-exist with another DNS server on the same machine, since both servers listen to port 53”.
a. Does this mean I should not install Microsoft DNS on this datafeed servers as WRBLDNSD is a special purpose DNS server for servicing DNSBL zones?
b. We have Active Directory Integrated LAN DNS Servers in our datacenter. Do I have to add DNSBL zone to my LAN DNS servers or should it be only on servers mapped for datafeed solution?
c. How and where could I view the zone and it updates as I am not using Microsoft DNS?
d. Do I have to manually perform any task for Spamhaus DNS setup?
2. As mentioned earlier I have two NIC’s on these servers.
a. Where should I input the IP address for DNS(WRBLDNSD) and the other NIC’s IP address for Spamhaus datafeed? My assumption is IP address for DNS (WRBLDNSD) should be mentioned in Bind address and port in RBLDNSD parameter page during setup and second NICs IP address (public) will be provided to Spamhaus to allow rsync via 873/tcp.
I may have some more questions as the implementation proceeds. Thanks in advance for your help.
Thanks

Hi,
I'm configuring a set of users for remote SSH access with copSSH but noticed that if I hide these users from the XP login through the policies setting 'deny local login' then they cannot login remotely.
Is there a way that these users can login wihout having their own user account display in the XP welcome window?
Regards.
can someone explain what the "Invalid argument (22)" error message means.
sometimes i receive this message, sometimes i don't. i have yet to be able to determine the specific cause of this error message.
I'm getting 'Network error: connection refused!' in Putty.
Hi
I want to allow ssh connection, between 2 PC running under Windows. I want to not use PKA autehntification instead of password.
I've installed copssh 1.4.3 on my PCs, called 'PC1' and 'PC2', both runnning under Windows XP Home SP2. Firewall was configured on both system to allow communication on port 22 TCP.
Then, I define two limited user, called 'guy1' and 'guy2', on both system.
Then, I activated these users and created their public keys with the dedicated GUI installed with copssh.
Finally, I used scp to copy from PC1 to PC2 and then from PC2 to PC1 the public key. All worked fine towards this stage. But now, when I treid another connection, passwrd is required.
I tried some modification on the sshd_config (eg I put StrictModes to yes because I can't manage to change the permission under bash... ??? ), but I did not manage to use PKA.
Have you any idea/suggestions ?
Thanks in advance
Hi,
i am trying to make a unattend installation of copSSH incl. public key authentication from a LINUX box. The basic installation of copSSH is no problem. To get public key working from the LINUX box, i have to create a user root on my W2K03 Server, activate the user for copSSH, modify the sshd_conf accordingly and copy the public key of the LINUX box to /home/root/.sshd . This is working without any problem. And here comes my question: Is there any possibility to get copSSH working with public key without first creating the root user on the Windows box? I´ve checked that copSSH is still working with public key, when i delete the root user in Windows afterwards. I would like to avoid creating the root user e.g. with net user root "password" /add, because the password is then in cleartext in my script for unattended installation, or is there another possibility to create the user with random password without showing it in cleartext? I would delete the user anyway afterwards. Thanks for your help in advance.
Hi
I tried for the last 2 days but I cant make this work.
I like to display the field_homepage as a link to the website and remove the line is the field is empty. But I'm running in to problems.
This one works when field is not empty:
field_homepage( --prefix "<a href=http://" --ignoreline )field_homepage >

Hi,
I have been struggling with rsync Error code 23 for a couple of week now trying to find why some of my backup would give this error no matter what with no errors in the log file.
I just gave up and decide that a code 23 would be consider as a success and decided to scan my log file for any “rsync: filename error” to check for errors besides basing my self of exit code.
To test my script I intentionally created a very long file name (Something like 300 char) expecting to catch the error in the log file.
I was surprise to see that rSync gave me no errors (-v, -vv and –vvvv) but exited with error code 23.
I wonder if there is any way (Switch or patch) to have rsync outputting and error with a lease the path and part of the filename to help in trouble shooting the backup failures…
Anyone has some similar issues?
Thanks to anyone that can help! J
(I’m using cwrsync 3.0.0 pre 1)

Hi,
Does anyone use a utility that allows a client to package their data within a secure container? My goal is to have data placed within this container while at the same time minimize the amount of changes this packaging causes.
Thank you.

hey i downloaded copssh and instaled it on my vomputer at home
i want to be able to use my computer at school and connect through ssh on port 443
so i already changed the sshd_config file to say port 443
do i have to change anything else??
then i went to activate user and activated a user on the computer and gave it a password
but when i try to connect -it only works on 22 (probably cause i have to restart the computer after changing that config file)
and it wont let me in?
Hello board,
I've been using cwrsync for many months with Windows now and haven't had a problem backing up my ~10.000 files to a local usb-storage until now.
Recently rsync hangs when transfering big files that are >400MiB and I cannot imagine the reason.
rsync -rltvhOx --progress --stats --whole-file --delete --exclude=nicht_im_backup /cygdrive/t/ /cygdrive/z/backup
This is how I invoke rsync and already tried to leave out --whole-file and --progress. The transfers are completely local with no network involved.
I have recently set up an (cw)rsync (over SSH) backup solution. I use Windows and cwrsync on both "sides".
While testing it I soon discovered that the modules did not work as expected.
When running rsync from the client I am able to backup data, but only if I specifies the exact search path for the destination - not if I specify a specific module.
I can't even get the rsync server to list available modules.
Every time I try to use or list modules I get the following error on the client:
-------
rsync: connection unexpectedly closed (0 bytes received so far)
rsync error: error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12) at io.c(453)
-------
I just can't figure out what's wrong...
This is an example rsyncd.conf that don't work as expected:
---------------------
use chroot = true
strict modes = false
hosts allow = *
log file = rsyncd.log
pid file = rsyncd.pid
path = /cygdrive/i/test
read only = false
transfer logging = yes
list = true
---------------------
Because of this problem the connecting client have full access to any paths on my harddrives - not only those specified in the modules.
How is this supposed to work? Should the client be able to get full access of my drives with the above configuration? If I don't specify any modules - then I guess this maybe should be possibe?

I have rsync running on the 30 minute schedule as per Spamhaus requirements. PBL and SBL seem to import fine and copy over (the majority of times). However, XBL returns an error '/bin/spamhaus-sync-custom.sh: line 263: /tmp/spamhaus-sync.out: Device or resource busy' on copy and I'm then left with xml.import and sync.lock. To get the process to run correctly at the next 30 minute interval I have to delete the .import and .lock files first. And again, the same thing happens.
I'm getting the follow set of errors when trying to run rsync through ssh on a Linux box (not even sure what flavor of Linux it is -Linux guru I am not...) First set of lines is my script. Second set is the error message. I have this working the same way on other Linux servers, but cant' get it working on this one. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks!!!

Hello,
We are planning to implement Spamhaus datafeed. I am inclined to use two physical servers for redundancy and these servers will be stationed in DMZ. I have some questions regarding ports and implementation:
1. Datafeed will be installed on Windows 2003 Server. I guess this server will join the domain as a member server.
2. Install DNS. Can DNS and WRBLDNSD run on a same server and can I have it (DNS & WRBLDNSD) run on two servers?
3. What all ports has to be opened in fiorewall to permit tarnsfers betwwen hosts and Spamhaus servers?
Can I install copSSH client tools only? The installation always seems to install both the server and the client binaries...
I love the prog, it works extremely well for me... but I'm also getting the dreaded Rsync hanging during transfer that seems so common. For me though, it directly ties to if I have even a single file that breaks the maximum allowed characters (with full path). Currently I'm in the process of compressing and shrinking down my directory structure as best I can... but sometimes I just can't do enough. Are there any other tips or tricks to help alleviate this limit/problem?
Much Appreciated!

Hi,
please somebody help me ?
I need to transfer data to a mapped drive on the machine where rsyncServer is installed.
using the command
rsync /cygdrive/c/citymap.jpg 192.xx.xx.xx::test
rsyncd.conf
use chroot = false
strict modes = false
hosts allow = *
log file = rsyncd.log
pid file = rsyncd.pid
# Module definitions
# Remember cygwin naming conventions : c:\work becomes /cygwin/c/work
#
path = /cygdrive/x/afla
read only = false
transfer logging = yes
typically i'll use cwrsync in this manner:
rsync -av /cygdrive/c/some_dir_name /cygdrive/d
this replicates an existing directory including the directory name.
is there parameter i can use that will allow the destination directory to be a different name so that the end result of the above operation would be:
d:\some_other_dir_name
rather than
d:\some_dir_name
thanks,
david
Hello,
I'm new to cwRsync and am having some problems. We have it installed on a Windows server (not sure what flavour at the moment but am looking into it) and I am trying to rsync files off of the Windows server to a CentOS4.5 box.
I am attempting to pull the files from the Windows box to the Linux box but it always fails. Rsync connects, displays "receiving file list ... done", makes all the directories it needs and then sucessfully transfers fbetween 3 and 10 files before hanging. Subsequent attempts to transfer the same files will always grab one or two more than the previous attempt, but then still hang.
The rsync versions are the same on both boxes (2.6.9 protocol version 29) and I can successfully rsync from Linux -> Linux so I'm fairly certain I am looking at something cwRsync specific.
Given that cwRsync lacks tools like ps, I'm finding it hard to troubleshoot on the Windows side of things to determine exactly what is happening.
Can someone give me some pointers on how I would go about troubleshooting this issue?
Thanks
Jon
Hi all,
The problem that I'm having is very strange. When I run cwRsync and that I set the CYGWIN=noNTsec environment variable the total backup time is about 4 to 6 time longuer. I did some test from Linux to Windows and windows to windows with and without Daemon. I also try many different version of rsync (2.6.8, 2.6.9 and 3.0.0 rl1) all with the same results. I also tried the latest cygwin1.dll but still no luck. The backup job I'm running uses the hardlink but even without the option the problem remains.
I try to setup a server and rsync with it.
My server rsyncd.log:
motd file = /program files/cwrsync/conf/rsyncd.motd
log file = /program files/cwrsync/log/rsyncd.log
pid file = /program files/cwrsync/conf/rsyncd.pid
lock file = /program files/cwrsync/conf/rsync.lock
hosts allow = *
path=/cygdrive/c/werk/rsync
comment = Testje
read only = no
list = yes
transfer logging = yes
My commandline for the client:
rsync --verbose --progress --stats --compress --recursive --times --perms --links --delete --exclude "*bak" --exclude "*~" /werk/rsynctest/* pc1018::test/rsync/
The error on the client side:
@ERROR: chdir failed
rsync error: error starting client-server protocol (code 5) at main.c(1383)
The error in the server log:
2007/11/07 14:01:52 connect from PC1018 (10.144.242.129)
2007/11/07 14:01:52 rsync: chdir /cygdrive/c/werk/rsync failed
: No such file or directory (2)
What goes wrong?
Thanks,
Jaap
