Sorry if this has been asked before, since I'm not quite adept at picking the post out from the search results, but how does one remove delete/write privileges from a registered user? I only planned to use copSSH as a way to access my files off my tower when I'm not at home, so having the ability to delete/modify files isn't necessary, and poses a possible threat to my system's integrity in case somehow someone manages to break through.
Assuming that you have 1.4.1 installed, you may check the contents of Start Menu -> COPSSH -> Documentation -> Openssh -> README.privsep.
I prepared my own scponly script based on https://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-list/2004-November/msg00591.html
Hi,
i'm using Version 1.71 of Adolsign in an AD-Domain on an domain user pc.
For the fax line, i'm using a conditional field. But if the AD-Field Fax is empty, there is still some output in html as well as in txt e-mails. The output is as follows :
field_fax
The command i use for the fax field is as follows :
field_fax(--prefix "Fax: " --ignoreline )field_fax
What did i wrong ?
Hi , I have a problem with Rsync Server Service. When first installing server it runs fine on windows 2003 server SP1. And if i set service to automatic. and reboot the server it starts fine. Next time you reboot service fails to start with logon failures. IF i re enter the password createwd in setup it's fine until next server reboot. When the same process must be done to make sure it's available for Rsync to run.
I had version 2.0.4 running now reliably for monts except for this issue..
I have installed latest release 2.0.10 and same problem.
I can see thast there is a local account for rsyncservice on server, it's not a DC just member of domain.
I tried to create a domain account and use that for the service, but cannot.
When trying to change logon for service credentials i get : Name translation:Could not find the name or insufficient right to see name. Thats when browseing to SvcwRsync user in active directory.
Anyu assistasnce to resolve this will make my life easier. Because if server is rebooted without my knoiwledge then backups don't run because of Rsync server not running.
Thanks in advance.

Dose anyone know how to overcome the "MAX_PATH_LENGTH" issue?
I tried to backup a folder by rsync but it returned with errors on some specific files as those
files hide in a deep sub-folder which has beyonded the MAX_PATH_LENGTH defined by Windows.
Any reply from you are appreciate!
I have a strange problem. I set up a Ubuntu 6.10 Linux SSH/RSync Server on my LAN, and set up all of the OS X workstations with DSA Public Keys that were then added to the RSync Server authorized_keys. The Ubuntu SSH/Linux RSync Server receives the RSync requests from all of the workstations using DSA Public Keys, passwordless authentication, and encryption.
I have Windows 2003 Server hosted at a datacenter that I also want to RSync to the Ubuntu Linux Server.
I installed CWRSync on the Windows 2003 Server, created a DSA public key on the W2K3 server, added that to the Ubuntu Linux authorized_keys, and wrote a couple of SSH/RSync Passwordless scripts on the W2K3 server:
rsync -e ssh -varuzP --delete --delete-excluded --bwlimit=100 /cygdrive/E/Databases/ root@#.#.#.#:/mnt/NetworkBackup/W2K3ServerMirror/Databases/
When I run this in a command prompt, it works beautifully, synchronizing without authentication, but when I add it to be run from Scheduled Tasks, it asks for a password.
Is there something that I can do to A) Use it with Scheduled Tasks and have it send the public key for passwordless authentication OR B) Add cron to Cygwin?
My objective is to RSync the W2K3 Server to the Ubuntu Linux SSH/RSync Server on a daily schedule using passwordless authentication and encryption.
I downloaded logreplight 1.7.0 a few days ago and installed it with default settings. It all runs perfectly and it generates a "count.png" in the install directory. "index.html" is generated on "http://localhost:8000/ ". Both "logreplight.jpg" and "count.png" are marked bij 'X' and not viewable (tested on Internet Explorer 7 and FireFox 2). How can I view these images on localhost. I have already set security to none and have given permissions for port 8000.
::..Hi There...What a great tool...Any plans for making the tool Outlook 2007 compatible ? It seems to me that the template copying works fine, while setting the new/reply/forward defaults does not work.
Please advise..

Hi.
I need to be able use norwegian locales on filenames, using cwRsync over ssh. Currently I am using Ubuntu as my ssh-accessable file server. What variables needs to be updated?
the file: "vær og klima.doc" (XP) ---rsync---> (ubuntu) "vær og klima.doc"
and this is not reversable ... making my problem complete:
"vær og klima.doc" (XP) <---rsync--- (ubuntu) "vær og klima.doc"
Any ideas anyone ??

Hi,
I have been using cwRSync for quite some time now. My setup comprises RSYNC over SSL. I have a Task Scheduler Task that executes every 6 hours. Once a day the process fails. Below is the rsync log. Once I restart the computer things get back to normal.
2007/02/08 06:00:09 rsync: failed to connect to localhost: Connection refused (111)
2007/02/08 06:00:09 rsync error: error in socket IO (code 10) at clientserver.c(104)
Is there a way I can further debug what the problem is?
Thank You and regards,
Al
I accidentally dumped the whole output of mkpasswd (all users) into passwd, and wonder if my server was compromised, because I noticed a whole lot of connections from an IP range in eastern Europe. There aren't any users on the system with weak passwords, but I am concerned about the accounts Copsshd, sshd and HelpAssistant present on my system. Could these accounts open my system to hackers ( I don't know how passwords are set on these...)
TIA :-)
When replying to internet mail the formatting of the signature is off. It becomes double spaced and cannot be corrected. The signature.htm file itself it fine but not in the email. I am using Outlook 2002. Any help would be appriciated.
Hi,
Is there a way I can specify the location of the /.ssh folder. My problem is that I am trying to use RSync client on a computer that is part of a domain which I do not have control over. Using group policies my root folder seems to be mapped to the server's root directory rather than to the computer's own drive C and this is being blocked. As a result the known_hosts is never being written and can therefore never be read.
Solving this is one of my critical hurdles.
Thank you and Regards
Al

Hi, can anyone help me on my problem?
In my LAN, assuming that I have 2 computers: 10.224.69.1 and 10.224.69.2 now I want to tranfer directory C:\For Move from 10.224.69.1 to directory C:\For Upload in 10.224.69.2. I have installed cwrsync server on 10.224.69.2 and cwrsync on 10.224.69.1. How can I setup SSH channel, is it compulsory? What steps do I need to follow in order to tranfer files? Thanks in advance!
Reading sshd_config.html reveals that default crpyto algo order is:
Ciphers aes128-cbc,3des-cbc,blowfish-cbc,cast128-cbc,arcfour128,arcfour256,arcfour,aes192-cbc,aes256-cbc,aes128-ctr,aes192-ctr,aes256-ctr
Question: what is the difference between cbc & ctr (aes) crypto ?
Which one is the: fastest crpyto algo+the most secure one ? How can do some benchmarking ?
I read somewhere on that blowfish runs much faster that aes .
Is that true ?
Hi,
So I got copssh all up and running on the server and I activated a user (same name as the server's admin- not sure if that's good or bad or what's causing my problem) and set up the private/public keys correctly. I'm currently using WinSCP and PuttyGen. Looks great and it feels great finally getting a solution running.
However I've run into a small problem...
When logging into the server via WinSCP, it checks my private key and so forth like normal... however, if I given the server the wrong key, or no key at all, it prompts me for my "Session password" which happens to be the user's windows server password (aka, the admin's password). Anyway- what bugs me is that even with a completely inncorrect key- as long as I enter the correct "session password" I am allowed on the server. So what's the point of the elaborate keys and passphrase then if you can still get on the server if you get them wrong or don't have them at all?
Or am I able to bypass the key like that because this user is the admin of the server?
Or do I have to set something up with Copssh so that keys are the only legitimate way of accessing the server?
Thanks!
-Tristan
PS: If any of this requires starting and stopping the OpenSSH, could someone instruct me on how that can be achived- kind of new to this. Thanks!
Hi All,
I'am using cwRsync 2.0.10 and have encountered rsync:File name too long (91) on really long file names. Investigation shows that cygwin have MAXPATHLEN much shorter than that of linux, it can be simple patch for cygwin but I don't want to recompile cwRsync with bigger MAXPATHLEN.
Maybe some one know a way to deal with it without recompilation? Or maybe the reason why MAXPATHLEN in cygwin so short?
Thanks for the great work of cwRsync.
However I am getting into trouble.
Because of my file structures, I want to backup specific subfolders/files under a module.
--------------------------------------
E.g. Module A = Directory abc
Inside directory, abc, there are folders a, b and c.
I wonder if I can get files on the client side by module name "A/a" or "A/b".
-------------------------------------
I remember that it was successful when i tested it a few months ago. But now it doesn't.
How can test the installation? The local copies seem to be updating, I can use "nslookup 2.0.0.127.zen.dnsbl" without a problem, the DIG statement works fine as long as I append the DNS server to the end of the statement (but it won't work without it), the counters seem to be slowly increasing but any test using nelson-XBL-test@crynwr.com (or the other two email addresses) shows "Uh-oh, your XBL block is not working!".
Hi,
I have set up the latest version of the service, all 3 lists are getting downloaded successfully via rsync to a Windows server, which is running rbldnsd and listening on port 53.
I don't have any importing/transferring set up to my MS DNS servers, as I'd like to keep the rbldnsd separate and simple. We have in the past set up our firewalls with an smtp proxy to look at sbl.spamhaus.org or zen.spamhaus.org successfully. Now we'd like to have them look at the internal rbldnsd server.
The things the Spamhaus tutorial does not tell you:
- you cannot run wrbldnsd on the same server as your MS DNS server; it's doable, but you might as well not even try so you can save yourself a giant headache and not worry about changing port information
- when the installer asks you to enter the name of the rsync server that was sent to you in the email, do not forget to add the "::rbldnsd" part to the end of "xxxxx.xxxxxx.xxxxx"; ommitting this information will cause the datafeed task to fail
- do not worry about entering a number for the Time question during the installer; the part of the installer that sets up the scheduled task fails every time anyway and you'll have to manually configure the scheduled task yourself
- in addition to creating the delegate zone for "zen" in your DNS server, also setup delegate zones for "pbl", "sbl" and "xbl"; not certain if this is absolutely required or not but after creating these zones, my spam tests started working
- the RBL query must, must, *MUST* query "zen.dnsbl" to succeed; you cannot use the IP address of the server running wrbldnsd
Hello,
thanks for your soft & explainations, i'm playing a bit with hardbackup and i'm quite confuse about the diskspace used :
i'm testing hardbackup beetween 2 windows 2003 servers, on a folder about 700MB (my goal is to backup around 20GB, is hardbackup ok for that?).
I've launched several backups and it seems that almost all snapshots (except one ??) are using the same diskplace than the original directory :
C:\Program Files\hardBackup>du --max-depth 1 D:\SAUVE\dc-mridf -h
736M D:\SAUVE\dc-mridf/200701261352
736M D:\SAUVE\dc-mridf/200701261415
736M D:\SAUVE\dc-mridf/200701261432
147K D:\SAUVE\dc-mridf/200701261442
736M D:\SAUVE\dc-mridf/200701261445
5.0K D:\SAUVE\dc-mridf/dirvish
2.9G D:\SAUVE\dc-mridf
Did I miss something ? Hard-linking isnt working under windows 2k3 ?
If anyone can explain me this behavior, and how to do only incremental backup ??
Thanks in advance,
Loic
