I am an application programmer in Windows system and have no experience with SFTP servers. The application I am building requires the ability to accept files from clients. The clients must log on with a valid username and password and must be restricted to a single folder on a ramdisk. They, the clients, are not users on the server. Can COPSSH be used in this kind of application or does it require any user to also be a user on the Windows server? If not, is there a product available that might fit?

Thanks for your time.

You need Windows users to

You need Windows users to make authentication work. What you can do is:

  • create a single Windows user and give it proper rights to the folder
  • activate that user only for public key authentication
  • Define a public key pair for each of your virtual users, and disturb the passphrase protected private key to users
