rsync over sshd

Is there a chance that you build a package with both rsync and sshd? We're using backuppc and it would be a really good combination for the windows-world. The rsyncd has everytime an open port, but when we use this combination we can open the port only for this backup-job. thanks in advance.

Re: rsync over sshd

GOOD NEWS!
Stay tuned :-) I've almost finished cwRsync Server 2.0 beta, which will be available during May 2005. This solution includes a built-in openssh server for secure tunnelling. In addition, I developed a command-line wrapper (sechaw) and a wizard, that will make secure channeling an easy task. Future versions will also introduce plink and stunnel as secure channel alternatives.

You mention you need beta testers for 2.0...
Where do we signup?

Sending me your mail address should be enough.

Re: rsync over sshd

I already have a secure connection using a VPN. Will it be possible to not use cwRsync's security (e.g. sshd) so that I can avoid the extra processing and complexity?

Re: rsync over sshd

Rsync 2.0.0 is released. Built-in openssh server and secure channel wrapper are optional components. You can simply install cwRsync server only and use your VPN as before.

Re: rsync over sshd

That's great news, but I've just tried to install cwRsync2.0.0 on a win2003 server on which I uninstalled cwRsync1.3.0a and, it complained about finding the previous installation.
I guess 2.0.0 found a registry key somewhere - what should I remove?

Installer checks if registry key HKLM\Software\Cygnus Solutions\Cygwin\mounts v2 exists. You can remove it, if you are sure that there is no other cygwin-stuff on your machine.
