Help! i'm trying to get cwRsync installed on XP and it goes through extracting all the files very quickly, then the installer hangs at "Creating service account SvcwRsync" i've tried a few times, and it always stops at this point. I've left it there for hours, but the only way to get out is to kill the installer in Task Manager.
what am i doing wrong?
thanks! tom
Can you publish the installation log ?
Where do i find that?
By clicking Details button during installation. You can copy/paste the contents of the Details field.
here is what's in the details. it appears to extract everything, but stops at "creating service account." this is the Server, by the way. i've since installed the client with no problem.

Creating service account SvcwRsync
thanks for your help! tom
What XP version do you use ? Home or Professional ?
i use XP Pro, SP2 with all the latest patches.
As of 2.0.5, Steps below are taken to create a service account:
Can you run commands above manually and check what kind of error messages you get ?
i got a password with no errors. ran the delete and got an error saying that the account wasn't found. ran the final and it created an account. i looked at net user, and the account is there. no errors. it just doesn't complete the installer...
is there a way i could look to see if it's actually working, now?
Thanks for your report. I've got several reports indicating that installer function which is used to execute other programs, stalls sometimes.
I will try to fix the problem and publish an updated package.
thanks. if you need any info about my system or what i've got loaded, just let me know.
since i was unable to get the server set up locally, i installed the client on my XP box and had the server set up on the Linux box. when i run the .cmd file from Windows, it closes too fast to see anything, but when run from the cmd window, it says(i omitted the login info from the forum):
recv_file_name(log)
received 1 names
recv_file_list done
get_local_name count=1 /cygdrive/C/Program Files/MySQL Server 5.0/data
generator starting pid=3164 count=1
delta-transmission enabled
recv_generator(log,0)
generate_files phase=1
rsync: connection unexpectedly closeed (26 bytes received so far)
rsync error: error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12) at io.c(434)
_exit_cleanup(code=12, file=oi.c, line = 434): about to call exit(12)
does this help?
thanks! tom
Hi guys.
I am experiencing the same problem when installing cwRsync 2.0.9 on a Windows 2000 SP3.
On this workstation I had version 2.0.3 of cwRsync, and it was perfect. When I tried to upgrade to last version, the problem appeared.
Unfortunately I cannot update the workstation because of an old and unsupported application that does not work under SP4.
I tought it was an issue related to my workstation, but since I read this thread, I think this is something more general.
How can I have cwRsync 2.0.9 working on my workstation?
BTW, now I cannot install any previous versione of cwRsyn (tried 2.0.3 thru 2.0.9).
Try to uninstall from Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs. There were some reports about stalling installer on Windows 2000 systems. It seems that the program execution functions don't work as expected. I have no other explanation to this problem. Hopefully, I will announce a major cwrsync release (2.1.0) during september, which will also address that problem.
Unfortunately I did what should never be done, because the uninstall did not work properly: I manually cancelled the installation folder and removed the system service (RSyncServer). Now, since the installation does not end successfully, the uninstall exe is not installed, so I have again to manually remove copied files.
Are there maybe lost registry keys or something else which is preventing the installation from working properly?
What kind of message do you get when you try to re-install cwRysnc ?
Try the following manual procedure to remove cwrsync server from your machine:
I suspect that the password creation utility pwdgen creates a password which is not appropriate for running from a command line (may be it contains slashes or other characters causing trouble).
I have updated cwRsync server package with a new password generation tool (version 2.0.9.1). Download here!
Well. The problem must then be related to the executioin of the dos command for account creation. I have no workaround at the moment. Next main release (2.1.0) will address this issue.
After the release of copSSH 1.4.0. November/December probably.
This problem is fixed in copSSH but not in cwRsync yet.

Any update on new cwrsync with this fix? Or, any suggestion on a manual workaround to install it? I'm stuck here also.
