How to upgrade COPSSH to newer version

Hello,

we are using COPSSH but it is installed 2 years ago. Now I would like to do an upgrade but keeping my current configuration, files, etc.

Can someone give me an advice, how to do an upgrade? Do i have to do uninstall and then new installation or just run setup which will detect current version and run automatic upgrade ?

thanks

You may use steps below if the previous version is 4.x or newer:

  • Take backup of etc/ssh_host* and bin/copsshcp.config files
  • Uninstall Copssh
  • Remove remnants of the installation directory except home if your users have home directories
  • Install new Copssh
  • Restore back etc/ssh_host* bin/copsshcp.config
  • Activate users again with the same home directory if you meet problems

For Copssh versions older than 4.x, you need to perform a complete uninstallation, remove insr.directory and the service account if necessary and install the new one.

my current version is 3.1.4

my current version is 3.1.4

does this means that i can not just do restore of etc/ssh_host* and bin/copsshcp.config files ? If i uninstall my configuration will be lost and after new installation I have to setup everything from scratch ?

You can restore back etc/ssh_host* files to keep host keys intact. Otherwise a full removal/installation is required.

why hide important information?

I just downloaded version 5.7.0 to upgrade my 5.5.2 installation.  I had no idea that it would wipe out my user configuration!  Why would you not warn people of this?  The upgrade process you outlined above should be provided in a more obvious way instead of people having to go searching for it after things blow up.  This is quite aggravating.

Our product installers are

Our product installers are upgrade aware keeping all existing configuration intact, and it is not necessary to follow steps above, which describes steps from an earlier incompatible version.

Apparently not

And yet, as I said, when I just tried to run the installer for 5.7.0 on top of my 5.5.2 installation my user configuration file was wiped out.  I'm having to recreate my activated user list from scratch.
